General
Tourego is short for “Tourist Refund on the Go”. We are a mobile app created to enhance tourist shopping experience by simplifying and fully digitalizing the tax refund process.
Tourego can be downloaded in the following:
i) Google Play Store;
ii) Apple App Store;
iii) And China-based app stores for PRC tourists who do not have access to Google Play Store;
iv) Direct download from TOUREGO website.
For a better refund experience, you are encouraged to register for an account (or scan your passport with the cashier to create an account).
If your passport was scanned by the cashier in the store, then a default
Tourego account would
have been generated for you. The default login ID and password for your
account are as follows:
1. Login ID – your passport number
2. Password – your date of birth
in format of
YYYYMMDD
You are encouraged to change the password after your initial
login to enhance
security.
Registration is simple and only takes a few seconds. Please have your passport ready and simply follow instructions in-app.
No, downloading the app and registering for an account are completely free of charge.
Tourego is currently available for tourists in Singapore and Japan, but we will soon be expanding to other popular destinations. We will keep you updated!
Tourego is only available at our participating merchants. You can click “View Merchants” in Tourego App to view the full merchant list.
From April 4, 2019, eTRS paper tickets will no longer be available. Tourists can view their eTRS transactions via the Tourego app under “View Refunds”.
Account Management
If you forgot your password, click the “Forgot password” option available on the login page of the Tourego app or user portal, enter your Tourego ID and select how you would like to reset your password. You will be able to reset your password with the verification code sent to the email address or phone number associated with your account.
Alternatively, if you don’t have an email address or phone number associated with your account, or you have forgotten your Tourego ID, you may also call Tourego Support Hotline (+65) 6909 2409 or send an email to tourist.support@tourego.com to reset your password.
You can delete your account safely with the following steps: Log into Tourego App -> Account -> Update Contact -> Delete Account
Retailers’ staff members can create an account for you by scanning your passport. The default ID will be your passport number and the default password will be your date of birth (YYYYMMDD).

User Registration - Passport
Yes, you may update your account passport information in any of the above circumstances. Simply go to “My Profile” and click “Update Passport” to scan your new passport for processing.
Yes, Tourego operates under a license from the Singapore Government.
Please rest assured that your details are safe with Tourego, which is licensed by the Singapore Government to operate as a Central Refund Agency. Our processes adhere to best practices in the industry and are fully compliant with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Kindly do note that you are required to provide your passport details to be eligible for tax refunds.
How to get a tax refund in Japan
Non-resident people. Foreigners who will stay less than 6 months (Except for diplomat, public duty, and U.S. Army), Japanese who live abroad and will be staying in Japan for less than 6 months.
- To qualify for a tax refund, purchases of 5,000 yen or more (excluding tax) must be made in one day at the same store.
- These items can be used in Japan but must be taken out of the country within 6 months from the date of entry.
- General items, such as clothing, shoes, home appliances, handbags, watches, jewelry, handicrafts, and more, are included.
- To be eligible for a tax refund, the total amount of shopping in one day at the same store should range from 5,000 to 500,000 yen (excluding tax).
- The purchased items will be placed in special packaging that cannot be opened and cannot be used in Japan.
- They must be taken out of Japan within 30 days from the date of entry.
- Consumables, including cosmetics, food, beverages, alcohol, health food, and more, fall under this category.
- If you wish to exempt both general goods and consumables purchased at the same store, they will be treated as consumables.
- The total value of the goods should be within 5,000 to 500,000 yen (excluding tax).
- All items will be placed in special packaging, cannot be used in Japan, and must be taken out of Japan within 30 days from the date of entry.
By using Tourego Tax Refund, we will provide you with detailed tax refund history of both general items and consumables.
Any combination of consumables (such as snacks, sweets, cosmetics, etc.) and general goods (including clothing,
merchandise, household items, etc.) totaling over 5,000 yen is eligible for a tax refund. 5,000 yen excludes consumption
tax.
Some stores may already include the sales tax in the price. In such cases, the tax amount will be deducted from your
total purchase value. Therefore, ensure that your total purchase value is over 5,000 yen, excluding tax.
The refund amount depends on the tax rate applicable to the items purchased. The standard tax rate is 10%. However, for
specific items covered by the reduced tax rate, which is 8%, the following categories apply:
- Foods and beverages (excluding liquors and eating-out services)
- Subscribed newspapers issued twice or more per week
Please note that the refund will be calculated based on the applicable tax rate for each item.
Service fees may also vary across different stores.
You can enjoy tax-free shopping in Individual stores who post Tax Free signs as below, the stores will not take
consumption tax so that you can enjoy shopping with sales price only.
In department stores with the Tax Free signs below, you can ask for tax refund. To claim your refund, you must apply for
it on the same day as your purchase during the department stores' operating hours.
To apply for a tax refund, you will need to present the following:
a. Purchased goods
b. Passport or “Visit Japan Web QR Code” or “WeChat Mini-Program QR Code”
c. For Japanese passport holders, copy of “Residency Certificate” or “Copy of the Address history attached to the family
register”.
The tax refund will be provided in Japanese yen (JPY) currency.
How to get a tax refund in Singapore
The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) is administered by Singapore Customs on behalf of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). The scheme is for tourists who wish to claim a refund of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) paid on their purchases.
Effective from 19 August 2012, retailers who want to operate TRS must operate it electronically (i.e. eTRS) and all such transactions are to be issued in electronic form (instead of paper) from 4 April 2019 onwards.
TRS is available to tourists departing from :
i) Changi International
Airport;
ii) Seletar
Airport
TRS is not available to tourists departing Singapore from land exits or via seaports.
To be an eligible tourist, you must:
– spend at least SGD100(including GST). You may
accumulate up to 3 same-day invoices/receipts from retailers bearing the same GST registration
number and shop name to meet this minimum purchase amount;
– present the original passport in
person (for cashier to ensure that the passport belongs to you);
– be 16 years of age or
above on the date of the purchase;
-depart Singapore with the goods via Changi Airport or
Seletar Airport with 2 months from the date of purchase;and
– be able to present the goods
purchased – along with corresponding purchase receipts and passport, to be inspected at the
Customs upon departure from Singapore.
To be an eligible tourist, you must not:
– Be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident;
– Be a member of the crew of an aircraft on which you are departing Singapore; and
– Be
a specified person on the date of, or at any time within the period of 3 months immediately
before the date of, the purchase, or on the date individual completes the application for a
refund
“specified person” means any of the following individuals:
(a) an individual who
has in force
(i) any work pass
(ii) a dependants pass
(iii) a “long term visit pass”
or
(iv) a student’s pass
(b) an individual who is any of the following and resident in Singapore:
(i) an individual
recognised by the Government as a diplomat, consular officer, an administration, technical or
service staff or other staff appointed to or employed in any foreign Embassy, High Commission or
Consulate in Singapore
(ii) an individual recognized by the Government as a staff appointed
to or employed in any foreign Embassy, High Commission or Consulate in Singapore
(iii) an
individual recognized by the Government as a staff appointed to or employed in an International
Organisation, Representative Office or Trade Office or
(iv) a spouse or dependent child of
any individual mentioned in sub-paragraph (i) or (ii).
You can get a tourist refund for all goods on which GST is charged, except:
a) Goods wholly or partly consumed in Singapore;
b) Goods exported for business or commercial
purposes;
c) Goods that will be exported by freight; or
d) Services such as
accommodation, car rental and entertainment.
The minimum purchase amount is SGD 100 (inclusive of GST). However, you may combine up to 3 same-day receipts from retailers with the same GST registration number.
The retailers or its appointed agents will deduct a handling/administration fee from the 7% refund due to the tourist for its refund services. Hence, tourist will not be refunded the full 7% GST that he/she has paid for the goods.
Your in-app refund wallet reflects the total amount of refund that you may claim.
You may also use the in-app tax calculator to find out the approximate amount of refund that can be claimed.
You may claim refund at the Changi International Airport or Seletar Airport before departing from Singapore.
Use the Tourego App to skip the queue and avoid touching kiosks.Simply click “Check-Out” to complete the tax refund process. You can choose your refund preference without having to queue for the eTRS self-help kiosks. Refund modes include: Cash, Credit Card, and Alipay. If you select Cash, you have to visit the Central Refund Counter.
Alternatively, you may queue for your turn at the eTRS self-help kiosks. Swipe your passport at the kiosk and follow the onscreen instructions to apply for your tax refund.
You may be prompted to present your goods before a Customs official.
Yes, you must still keep your paper receipts. Customs may require you to produce the original paper receipts during checks.
You may still log into your Tourego account using another device. Alternatively, you can present your physical passport to the cashier.
You can click “VIEW REFUNDS” in the Tourego App to check the status of all your eTRS transactions.
You may view your eTRS transactions in the Tourego app by clicking “View Refunds” or signing into your account via the User Portal on tourist.tourego.com.
Yes, you will need to re-enter Singapore, open Tourego App and click “Checkout” to get the refund, or to scan your passport at the kiosk to get the refund.
Please note that for goods above the value of SGD 500, GST will be imposed at the point of
re-entry into Singapore. Where the value of goods is less than SGD 500, GST will not be imposed
but you should still consider factors such as :
1) The cost of bringing the goods back to
Singapore;
2) The goods must be completely unused;and
3) The goods must have left
Singapore within 2 months
If you choose to use Tourego App to get the refund:
Click “Checkout” in Tourego App to finish
the tax refund process, if it shows “Approved”, it means that the refund claim has been
accepted. If it shows “Not Approved”, you will have to proceed to the Customs Inspection Counter
for further verification with the goods, travel documents, passport, purchase receipt, boarding
pass/ confirmed air ticket, etc.
If you choose to use kiosks to get the refund:
You can see the results after scanning your
passport at the kiosk. If it shows “Approved”, it means that the refund claim has been accepted.
If the kiosk shows “Not Approved”, you will have to proceed to the Customs Inspection Counter
for further verification with the goods, travel documents, passport, purchase receipt, boarding
pass/ confirmed air ticket, etc.
For bulky goods or goods to be checked-in, the refund must be claimed before check-in. For small and high-value goods (e.g. jewellery) that can be hand-carried, the tourist should claim the refund after immigration clearance. Please note that in both instances, Singapore Customs reserves the right to inspect the goods before processing the refund.
Your refund will be credited to your specified credit card within 10 days. You may check the in-app refund statement found in your refund wallet to ascertain if the refund has been credited into your account.
For cash refunds, you will receive your cash refund in Singapore Dollars.
If you would like
your refund to be credited to a Credit Card, your refund will be credited in the currency in
which the credit card was issued.
If you would like your refund to be credited to Alipay,
your refund will be credited in the currency that Alipay is using.
No. You may use a different credit card to claim your refund.
Tourego Mobile Checkout
Mobile checkout is the world’s first end-to-end online tax refund solution. It allows tourists to claim GST refund just by using their mobile phone, without lining up in a queue.
By using the app, tourists can save time and avoid queueing at the GST Refund Kiosk.
The refund zone in each terminal is near the Goods and Services Tax (GST) refund kiosk area. The refund zone area is not marked, but the app will have a notification message if you try to claim GST refund when outside the zone.
Yes, the tourist can claim refunds for all eligible purchases including those handled by other CRAs.
This is an official requirement, to help verify identity.
If facial recognition is unsuccessful, please proceed to use the kiosk to claim your refund.
Instant In-Store Refund (IISR)
IISR enables tourists in Singapore to receive their tax refund instantly in participating retail stores.
Credit Cards
We currently accept Visa and UnionPay credit cards issued outside of Singapore.
Cash Alternatives
You can choose to convert your tax refund into IISR-2P vouchers.
As part of the IISR feature, the tourist will enjoy 10% more in tax refund value if she chooses to convert her tax refund into a voucher. The voucher can be utilized immediately during her second purchase in the store.
IISR-2P gives you tax refund freedom. You can choose any tax refund value above S$100 to convert and the remaining amount will be refunded back to your UnionPay or Visa credit card immediately.
Yes. The tax refund process is not complete until the transaction is validated by Customs. Complete the process at the airport using the Mobile Checkout on the Tourego App, or queue at the eTRS self-help kiosks.
A pre-authorisation is a temporary hold placed on a customer's card to guarantee their tax refund. The refund amount will be reserved on the customer's card but no actual payment deduction will occur. This hold ensures that the necessary funds are available until the tax refund process is completed. If the tax refund transaction is not validated within two months from the date of issuance, the pre-authorisation amount will be debited from the account.
